2D/1N Cotopaxi Loop– Quilotoa Loop

Cotopaxi Loop and Quilotoa Loop, 2 days exploring the Central Andes of Ecuador, Complete circuit of the Cotopaxi National Park (Entry: North Control. Departure: South Control). Complete Quilotoa Loop circuit ( Lasso , Sigchos , Chugchilán , Quilotoa , Zumbahua , Pujilí , Latacunga.

In the Cotopaxi National Park, we cross the Volcanic Valley at 3800 meters above sea level (12 467 ft), we ascend the slopes of the Cotopaxi Volcano, and arrive at the Volcano Parking Lot, 4500 meters above sea level (14 763 ft). There will be free time for the optional guided trekking to José Ribas Refuge at 4864 meters above sea level (15 958 ft). Before leaving the National Park, we visit Limpiopungo Lagoon.
After lunch, on our way to the West, we cross the Guangaje Mountain Range, and immediately we are already part of the “Quilotoa Loop Circuit”, crossing communities and canyons.

Dinner and accommodation in Chugchilán

The next day: We start with the Grand Canyon of the Toachi River Viewpoint and head to the Quilotoa Community, we will enjoy time at its viewpoints, its Artisan Market, and traditional food, as well as free time for optional trekking to the lagoon. The community offers some services: kayak and horseback riding back to the Community.

ACTIVITIES

• Arrival at Cotopaxi National Park (North Control Entrance)
• Acclimatization stop at 3800 meters above sea level, coca tea tasting.
• Panoramic view: Volcanic valley and Limpiopungo Lagoon
• Trekking to the José Ribas Refuge from its parking lot 4500-4864 meters above sea level.
• Lunch around Cotopaxi National Park (not included)
• Road to the Western Cordillera, free afternoon and accommodation in the town of Chugchilán
• On the 2nd day, after breakfast at the hostel, we headed to Quilotoa
• Viewpoint to the Grand Canyon of the Toachi River
  • Optional/ Recommended activity in the morning: Horseback riding to the Cloud Forest: $40
• Quilotoa Community (Viewpoints, Artisan Market, Restaurants)
  • Optional: Descent Quilotoa Lagoon. (Recommended activities: kayak, motor boat tour or horseback ride back to the Community.)
• Lunch in Quilotoa (not included)
• Return Quito

What to Bring?

• Be sure to wear comfortable clothing appropriate for cold and temperate weather.

• Use sunscreen, glasses and carry hydration
• Scarf, gloves, long socks and an extra change of clothes that can be left in the vehicle
